A Princess no More?

Part 2

It was in the spring of '96. June 24th I think, when Ashley began to get that wanderlust feeling again. Pride and Webster could see it in her eyes and tried to pay more attention to her. Stoni knew too, that she was about to lose her big sister and playmate.

Their efforts to keep her happy at home were futile. She hitched a ride with a spinster lady on a Monday afternoon in early July. They were headed south and it was when they crossed the border into Kansas that Ashley's heart began to beat faster. It was coming back to her now. She could see his fine manly figure and hear his soulful/soft voice as he sang to her six months earlier.

She left the spinster lady somewhere near Topeka, Kansas and after visiting with relatives in the area she headed for Kansas City. She knew exactly where she would find Tally and they met for a Saturday night rendezvous. They had a whirlwind week together and he was dashing, bold-- everything she remembered about him. But once again, he soon grew tired of her. He began ignoring her--he'd had his fun and now it was time to move on.

Heartbroken, Ashley accepted a ride back home to Nebraska with some family friends. She was welcomed back by her loving family once again. Pride and Webster were worried about the consequences of her escapades but they tried to act as though nothing happened. Stoni was only happy that her big sis was back home--she had missed her and always looked up to her as her mentor. Ashley too, tried to act as though nothing happened and went right back into her usual routine. But in the back of her mind, she knew something was different--she just had a feeling that her life would never be the same again.
