What is a Disaster?

Webster defines a disaster this way:  A sudden calamitous event bringing great damage, loss or destruction:  a sudden or great misfortune or failure: an event or situation that is a terrible misfortune: an unforeseen, ruinous event or situation.

Webster defines a disaster area as:   An area officially declared to be the scene of an emergency reacted by a disaster and therefore qualified to receive certain types of government aid.

As we now know, disasters come in all forms and levels.  They can be natural disasters including hurricanes, tornadoes, other severe weather conditions, (i.e. floods and flash floods).  They can also be man-made disasters that include chemical spills from truck accidents or train derailments, resulting in evacuation of affected areas, accidents damaging large portions of cities, as well as fires.  The key word for the ADT is "evacuation".  If people are being evacuated, animals are being evacuated.

Whatever the disaster, the ADT has trained volunteers who are ready, willing and able to respond.
