NMB Man Carries Out Patriotic Duty

Web site helps find foster homes for military pets
Editorial Page Editor - Denny Clements

Is there anything that one person, living in our area, can do to make a difference in our nations's war against terrorism?

Just ask Steve Albin of North Myrtle Beach. His Web site has found foster homes for thousands of pets whose owners were called to military service after Sept. 11.

Albin had learned that during the Gulf War, many pets had to be euthanized after being abandoned by their owners when they were called to duty. After he learned of the need, he found a way to meet it. He formed, through NetPets.Org, a non profit organization that receives minimal donations, the MilitaryPetsFOSTER Project.

Albin devotes hours of work and spends $800.00 per month on his phone bill and to keep up the Web site. But the effort, he explains, is his patriotic duty. "There are times when you just have to be selfless," he said.

What a refreshing attitude, in a time when too many people won't even take a few minutes to do their civic duty and go vote.

Help's on the way for pets of deployed soldiers
For every G.I. Joe deployed overseas, there is often a Fluffy of Fido left behind to fend for itself stateside.

The idea of finding foster homes has caught on nationally. NetPets.Org, a nonprofit group based in North Myrtle Beasch, offers a natrionwide network of foster homes that take in pets belonging to service personnel.

MILITARY PETS

Caring for the Men and Women in Uniform
and Their Furry Friends

As thousands of military personnel are deployed around the world, a need to care for the military-owned animals has arisen. In response to that need, a program called MilitaryPetsFOSTER Project has been establlished by NetPets.Org. The organization acts as a liaison between the military personnel and the "foster parents" who will house, nurture and care the the dogs, cats and birds while their owners are mobilized. The service is free to any member of the military and prevents the animals from goung to shelters where they are forever lost.

For more information of the FOSTER Project. or to donate money to the program, visit the Web site at www.netpets.org or call 843-249-5262.

Help for Our Pet-Owning Members of the Military
In this time of war, many of our men and women in uniform may find themselves having to make special arrangements for their family pets if they are suddenly deployed or transferred.

For the military personnel who are not able to bring their pets overseas with them nad who do not have relatives or friends who can care for them temporarily, NetPets.Org, a non-profit Internet based organization, has put together the MilitaryPetsFOSTER Project. This is a free, nationwide network of foster volunteers who are willing and able to temporarily care for the pets of the servicemen and women who are called to duty.

If you woild like to lend a hand and are able to foster a pet, or if you're in the military of other related government organization and need to find a temporary home for you cat, dog, or bird, call NetPets at (843) 249-5262 or visit www.netpets.org.
