Robert Jay Russell, Ph.D. (rjr)NetPets Senior Editor/Author Dr. Russell earned a Ph.D. in Anatomy and Zoology from Duke University. He has studied primates, carnivores, marsupials, and birds in Africa, South America, and Mexico for many years. He has performed research and lectured about conservation biology, genetics, ecology, ethology, anatomy, and evolution at UCLA and the U. of Vienna. In 1974, during a two-year field study of lemurs in Madagascar, he discovered and exported a rare breed of dog, the Coton de Tulear, to North America. He founded the Coton de Tulear Club of America (CTCA) in 1976. He has written popular science books about evolution ("The Lemurs' Legacy: the evolution of power, sex, and love") and with his wife Laurie, a book about the Coton ("The Official Coton de Tulear Book").
