Rita Shimniok co-owns Oakridge Enterprises and Feather Farm with her husband, Jesse, in Cross Plains, WI. They began raising birds in 1989 and started manufacturing a travel/show cage of Rita's design in 1996. Their AFA MAP-approved aviary focuses on raising less vocal parrot species, nurtured to delight families as companion parrots, with expertise in Jardine's parrots. Babies are raised with a strong understanding of parrot psychology and behavior.Rita began exhibiting parrots in 1992 having attained champion exhibitor status for three consecutive years. She has served in several bird clubs as an officer of various positions, and also as a former long time editor for the local bird club. Rita helped found the WINGS Parrot Society several years ago to help return parrot and cockatiel exhibition to Wisconsin, and helps organize parrot shows around the midwest.
Rita has been writing for most of her life, including published poetry. In addition to operating the Oakridge business, she works full time as a computer graphic artist.
