Donna Hefton has been associated with the study of parrots for almost a decade. Her fascination with pet psittacine behavior has led her to studying the natural habitat of the birds and, in turn, how captivity affects their health, attitude and overall well-being. Hefton created Showerbird, the first dedicated showering device for large parrots, after noting the role that abundant rainfall plays in the parrots' natural environment. Hefton's articles on bathing and species-specific behaviors have been published in The Pet Bird Report, Bird Talk Magazine, The American Federal of Aviculture's Watchbird and The Amazona Society's The Amazona Quarterly. Hefton has accepted invitations to speak at bird clubs and related groups including The International Avicultural Society and The Birds Clubs of Virginia conventions. Hefton publishes and edits the The Dead Parrot Society, an alternative print journal dedicated to broadening the knowledge about parrots.Currently the Senior Administrator of the NetPets bird section, Hefton hopes to bring information of the highest caliber to the companion parrot owner through the internet system.
Hefton resides in Chicago, Illinois, with a Yellow-Nape Amazon and two Timneh African Greys.
